First grade students started their days this week with a round of brain gymnastics. The benefits of this type of mind/body activity include the development of focus and attention, the improvement of memory and academic performance as well as a greater sense of accomplishment. Simple and yet highly effective, students are empowered by these exercises.
Fifth grade students recently read a story about how an innovative idea allowed for unexpected development in sports. Students were then asked to consider what kinds of circumstances push people to create new inventions. Some of their answers included solving world problem, making life easier, making more money. They concluded that invention is crucial for the economic and social well-being of our country. Students then shared some of their ideas!
Sixth grade students bring laptops or Ipads on Fridays to review concepts presented during the week.
This is a great way for them to reinforce new concepts while enjoying themselves in the userfriendly platforms available to them.
This week we read about the senses, mainly the sense of sight. We were able to observe how the limitation of one sense can affect our perception. The children modeled figures with dough, colored geometric figures to create a 3D effect, and also learned that the arrangement of shapes and colors can create surprising results.
